What Tools & Equipment do you need for Baile an Or?

Here is some essential gear for gold panning, for a start there are the gold pans themselves. All the following equipment can be purchased through UK Fossils via our sister site UKGE.

Gold Pans : Highest Quality, Strong Plastic Gold Pans from Estwing USA. Available in three sizes,
small (12"), medium (14") or large (16").

Tweezers: Very handy since the gold flakes and grains can be very small, you can pick them out of the gold pan and place in either bottles or specimen bags.

Glass Bottles with Corks: Perfect for holding your gold finds, ensures that you keep them safe. It is recommended to fill the bottles with water, when you find gold, touch the water surface with the tweezers and the gold will drop to the bottom.

Geo Field Ruler: This Geo Ruler is ideal for field use and for photographing specimens. The Rular is colour graduated in CM with 10cm Blocks, made of hard thick plastic and is waterproof.

Waterproof Notepads and Waterproof Pens: These field notepads and field pens work in the rain, they are perfect for taking notes. The pens work in any condition, including underwater! Taking notes about where fossils were found is an essential part of any collection.

Specimen Bags: These are ideal for Baile an Or. Sealable Clear Specimen Bags can hold your finds. These can be purchased from UKGE for low prices and can easily be re-used.

Footwear: You will need to pan in the river, so wellington boots are essential.
